M11x R1 - still going. Sort of.

Its been over 5 years or so and the system still works. The hinge had failed many months ago and the Nvidia chip failed ages back. But it worked. Filled in as a backup for a while for my wife - busted hinge and all.

Then it just sat there. Lid open due to hinge. Dusty. Dirty. Forgotten. Until now.

Took it apart, got the china made no brand epoxy and went to town. Filled in the areas where NO plastic even existed and created new mounts. Dusted and cleaned, wiped and sprayed. Booted...

M11x R1 - still going. Sort of.

M11x r2 new motherboard different HDD connector ?!

So I replaced my i3 r2 motherboard with a i5 r2 board and the hard drive connectors are different. Anyone know where I can find the adapter ? I can't find one.
Here is a picture of the 2 I have. The left is my old one and the right is one I bought which would work but it's not long enough for the pins to touch the connector

M11x freezes on bio update?

I got my new motherboard in my m11x. my bio is X07, i am trying to update it to ao4 (latest) but it freezes my whole system and just stays on initializing. I cant even power it down with power button. i have to pull bottom cover off and unplug battery or let the battery die. Is this a faulty board ? or do i just let it sit on that screen over night? i only left it for like 10-20 min till i pulled the battery. Thanks ! this mobo has no service tag btw it asks for one in bios.

Hi all.

I stopped gaming on the little beast a while back after temps got silly and I got a new laptop and even though I still make music on it with reason, wavelab etc I thought it'd be time to breath some life back into the system.

Took it all apart and cleaned, updated to win 10, but temps were still too high when I loaded up fallout 4 so I invested in an opolar fan cooler. Unfortunately due to the positioning of the vent on the m11x the silicon sheath had to be slightly modified to...

Someday I will know enough to help other people rather than beg, but that day is not today.

I purchased a used m11x today to act as an emergency laptop while my M18 is on extended leave of absence due to murdering.

However when I got it home, it seems someone has installed windows 10 on it without seeing if it can support windows 10 and I have been fighting drivers all day to get it fixed.

As it stands everything is updated and running great except for the display adapters. If I uninstall...

So, m11x r1, windows 10 latest build and NVidia driver 341.95

If I close the lid and pc will sleep, it won't wake up. Black screen it will be, with keyboard lit

Anyone? I've got R1 without GMS card, so this slot, called WWAN for some reason, is empty. I'm thinking on purchasing some SSD for it.

No Bootable Devices Found

Hey guys,

I installed my SSD into my AW 13 r2 and got the message on boot that there are no Bootable Devices Found. However, when I go into the setup/bios it says "Fixed HDD Samsung SSD 85 (500 GB). Which means there is a Bootable Device

I ran the onboard diagnostics and it came back with no errors and said nothing was wrong.

What should I do?

M11x r1 won't work at full speed

At home I've got original dell power supply, but at work I've got universal one. And my more powerful Lenovo laptop works without problem.

But small m11x shows this error:

And works at half speed. 3500 in 3dmark06 instead of 6500.

P.S. Power-supply is for 120 watt

Hi ya'll, hope I don't get immediate hatred for not performing the search function but having a hard time navigating the forum.

I recently revamped my old M11X, got windows 10 up and running, looking to use this laptop for coding in school. Tired of my mac..

My hinge is broken, as you can expect from the title. I was wondering, if anyone had any advice for me.

Does Dell/Alienware still do the repairs if I send my laptop in? Or should I settle for a home remedy?

M11x R3 windows 10 issue - lid closing brings up external display menu.

After having network issues on windows 7, i decided to try windows 10 on my m11x r3 to see if it could fix them, however it's been replaced by a more critical problem.

Closing the laptop lid opens the external display menu and it often sets itself to "duplicate" mode, lowering the resolution to 720p with no way to reverse besides closing and opening the lid again.

Does anyone have any ideas for a fix?

I remember when m11x was released there was a small fan-made java utility that allowed to change colors of different elements. Much better then gigantic alienware tool. Anyone can remind me what was that tool? Thx

I have an Alienware M11x. It is really in mint condition. I have only ever used it a handful of times. I had planned to take it with me on a vacation. So, I bought it for that purpose, but then I didn't end up going, and put it away really not to think about much after that. I had a bigger, heavier notebook I used. Anyway, I have finally come to where I would like to use it. It had been in a case all the time. So, it's in great shape, but it won't power on. I did charge it. No lights...

Hi, I have a M11x R3 i5 with 16GB Corsair Vengeance and a 1TB Samsung 850 EVO SSD. I just bought a brand new Samsung SDI battery, I was getting around 40 minutes from my previous battery which wasn't enough. I go to college and study a lot afterwards and having to bring my charger is a pain. The review on this site says on balanced power mode and 70% brightness they got almost 8 hours of use (exact same specs as mine except I have 16GB of RAM and an SSD). Hey Guys, so recently I reinstalled my WHOLE operating system because my computer was too jam-packed with old games,files,downloads,etc, and would overheat (not crash) and lag like the worst dial up you ever experienced.

ANYWAY!

I tried to reinstall Windows from a system image I copied on to an external hardrive. Failed miserably and the reinstall crashed, crashing the whole computer. I called Dell and they sent me a new USB OS for Windows Home Premium x64, and now I have this baby up and...

So, for kicks grabbed it and well, did some playing around and got this:

dont get me wrong, it aint constant or world changing, but it comes and goes for a second on random times... when fully loaded it stays @ 1.6Ghz but otherwise when just surfing or working something on it I can see cpu jump to 1.73GHz so thought I will share this...

M11X R1 ... SU7300 @ 1.73Ghz ... no pinmod / no bios mod etc...

Tech Question: M11X Bottom Access Panel and LCD Assy Differences R1 vs. R2 vs. R3

As title^, are they just different colours and P/N or do they have different fitments and all?
In other words if I had M11X R1, would R2 or R3 bottom access panel work for me just fine?
Same goes if I am trying to get panel for m11x R2 will R1 bottom access panel work?

Also, how about LCD assy differences between all 3 models, are they completely interchangeable or not? I mean where it comes full LCD/LID/HINGES/PLEXI GLASS/WEBCAM - Full complete assy.

Yea... I know its old and more so obsolete, but since I have this itch, and as a side project in mind, this has me lil excited...! anybody here has some free time and enthusiasm to help me out sourcing 90% parts... which are US based.

PS: its a budget build, counted all major parts to run in at ~200$ more less...
PPS: also im only doing M11X R2 with 1.2Ghz cpu, as for what I would need it its more than enough, especially when paired with SSD :)

Never ask - never know, so thought I will...

why does my m11x r2 think its an m18x r2?

hi guys

ive recently pulled my old m11xr2 out of storage & completely renewed it putting in an SSD, 8gb, new keyboard and a new Battery.

I clean factory restored it and began updating drivers.

When checking if the 8gb ram took hold i realized that when i go to System Properties the model make is listed as m18xr2.

Does anyone know the reason for this? i have a standard m18xr2 as well so i find it kinda funny.

Anyone have any ideas? Would be grateful to hear.

Also, apart from buying a...

why does my m11x r2 think its an m18x r2?
