M11X R3 : optimus disable with external monitor on WIN10

I update My M11X R3 to WIN10 by automatic update from Windows it self.
Everything work smooth except 1394 driver.

After I tested with External monitor I have some interesting result.

It shows intel and nVIDIA control panel works together = Otimus enable.

Alien ware m11x r1 gpu not recognised

Hi, so as it says, my gpu isn't recognised which means I have to play games through integrated graphics which is torture. I already looked in the bios and it only recognises Intel hd graphics. It might help to know that I have factory reset the computer before. Please help! I can't bear the frame rate!

M11Xr2 Bluetooth and Windows 10

I was having major issues with Bluetooth when I installed Windows 10 so I thought I would share my fix since Dell is no longer supporting the M11x with W10.
(I actually revived this computer from the shelf yesterday to try it out so I'm happy there is still a community that still uses this guy)

  1. Completely remove all Bluetooth Drivers
    1. Uninstall anything Broadcom with Uninstall or change a feature
    2. Uninstall everything Bluetooth in the Device Manager...

Graphic card problems

Hi guys
I have been having alot of problems with my graphic card. it does not seam to run on my dedicated graphic card but my intergraded, and that makes my computer really slow with my i3 with 1.3ghz proseser. i have set my nvidia graphic card to max preformace and still nothing happens. i can go add programs that i want to use with my dedicated graphics card, and then it seem to work, but only with that program. my system runs on the intergraded graphics card and that makes it so slow. pls...

I have an old (2010) m11x R2 with Optimus that automatically switches between the crappy Intel integrated adapter and a GT 335M Nvidia adapter for gaming. Over Thanksgiving I bought a home office set-up including a Plugable USB 3.0 docking station and two Dell U2414H external monitors. The Dell monitors have a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 each. Hi,


I am very new to upgrading laptops… well, I’ve never done it before! However, I am up for the challenge as I think it will be fun. I have an m11x R2 that I bought when it was first released for gaming. I am more of a console gamer but just thought it would be good to get m11x r2 back up and running to the ‘best it can be’…

Alienware 13 - touchpad driver?

Noticed the new Alienware 13 uses the Windows 8 modern settings app to access trackpad settings. Unfortunately, there are almost no settings in the app. I'm most interested in three finger clicking to serve as middle click.

I downloaded Windows 8.1 Alps touchpad drivers from Acer and discovered that they identify as certified for the touchpad, so my best guess is that it's Alps. That being said, none of the processes (like APoint.exe) will run.

Anyone have ideas on this?

M11x r3 not charging when on

I have had this laptop for over 4 years now and for last few months the computer only charges when turned off. When I turn the computer on it usually charges for around 15-45 minutes then stops until the battery runs flat and computer turns off. When restarting with half full battery the computer won't charge. Charger is original.
Has anyone had similar problems? How do you fix this?
Any help is appreciated!

Alienware m11X R3

Afternoon guys.

I've recently acquired an Alienware m11X R3, I3, 540M 1GB one with a 128GB SSD.

For a small figure of £140 which I thought was a bargain.

Anyhow the CPU temperatures just seem to creep up and just remain at 70 Degrees I can go in and change the fan speed to 7000RPM to try and cool it down however it really doesn't do much.

I'm wondering if this is normal or do I need to take it apart blow the dust off and repaste with liquid ultra on both? :D

If so with the paste job...

Hi everyone. My R1 fans behave erratically. When I'm on integrated graphics, everything seems fine, but when I switch to Nvidia graphics it seems the fan will start spinning off and on whenever it feels like it for no reason. My temps always remain low and always in the 30s or low 40s C and yet the fan decides to spin fast enough to be audibly annoying. It spins for a few seconds, then stops, and starts again at random. I have a substantial amount of sentimental value for, and it is still functional just not up to my standards. Everything about the computer lags, from running games, loading programs and especially network connection (if anyone knows what could be the source of this problem could you shed light onto it? Browsing capability is minimal, and I'm not sure if the network adapter could be the problem). My main question here is, I want to get this laptop up and running well enough that it's worth...

Hi All,

First of all long time reader first time poster,

I've been following all the past threads on screen mod's ect and it seems everything hits a dead end. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has followed through.

So why the interest for me, well my M11x R1 has finally succumbed to the hinge issue and has caused a spilt in the bezel, Plus i am also due for an upgrade in the next few months, However i love my MX and wanted a project to experiment on purely for self...

SATA connector on M11xR3 - vertical, Samsung 850 Pro SSD - horizontal????

This might be a stupid question, but I did not find anything on the web.

The SATA HDD connector inside the M11XR3 is vertical (the HDD is inserted 'from above'), while I just bought the 850 Pro 512GB SSD (to prolong the useful life of my little monster that I grew to love) - and it's SATA connector is Horizontal!!!

What gives? I read so many experiences online with people installing 850 Pro in their M11x? How? Do they use some adapter? Is there space for an adapter?

This is driving me crazy

M11x R3 540m issues

Hey guys,

I have a m11x r3 for a while now and its pretty kickass.

Recently though, I got the Code 43 for the nvidia 540m and have been unsuccessful in finding a solution. It worked fine with Windows 7 using the Dell 267.21 driver and even after the Windows 10 update. But when I decided to cleaned install Windows 10, I get the code 43 now.

Things I have tried so far + notes:
- disable and enable in device manager
- uninstall driver and uninstall software in device manager
- latest bios...

New Ram issue with M11x R2

So recently decided to get new ram for my M11x since 4gb wasn't cutting anymore in terms of speed.

I ended up getting https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B006YG8X9Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 assuming it would clock down based on what I read. Apparently I was mistaken, and although the BIOS recognizes that I have 8GBs, it either does not load Windows or blue screens.

Is this ram not compatible with this laptop? If so, should I be looking into 2x4Gb sets at PC3 10800?

M11xR3 and Oculus Rift DK2

Has anyone else tried setting up the Rift DK2 on an M11x? I know it doesn't meet the minimum specs, but I jsut want to try some demos.

I got as far as installing the latest runtime. There are no unknown devices in device manager. The VR service is running, but when I start the Oculus app it says it can't contact the service.

Should I try an older version of the runtime? I heard 0.8 is more lenient towards the hardware requirements.

I'm using the latest nVidia drivers as well.

So I won a bid on a Alienware m11x for 100. Says it won't turn on..so I'm thinking of getting a r3 motherboard and daughter board since it has the better graphics card. What are your guys thoughts? How much of a difference is the 335m to 540m? Thanks

so I won a bid on eBay for a broken m11x it was listed as it wouldn't turn on. Took it apart and saw the power ribbon and fan ribbon unplugged. Plugged it all in and it turned on! But..when I boot ..the keyboard and mouse do not work. They only work in bios or if I press f2 or f12 on start up. (Usb mouse and keyboard work). Also sometimes it won't post and it makes 2 beeps and sometimes makes 5 beeps. But usually it hardly does that. I noticed it does the 2 beeps if I boot it with the...
